Was Packaging Discovered or Invented?

Artifacts that are converted from natural resources to products often need to be packaged for safety, security, identification containment, shipping, and all that surrounds the effort to get the resource from one place to another.

Packaging, defined holistically, is ubiquitous. Name something that doesn’t come in a package. Not much comes to mind. Even an apple is labeled–a form of packaging. Your next pair of fashionable jeans will have at least one tag. Although packaging has been around since the birth of humanity, we are now starting to comprehend the impact packaging has on the planet we occupy.

But with new knowledge, and technologies, questions arise and make you wonder, was the package discovered or invented?
